2. Hot Topic: Essentials of Informed Consent
There are many aspects to consider when planning for informed consent, such as what is meant by informed consent and what is required to be included in a consent form. Questions often arise as to what information needs to be provided to participants and what happens if a participant wishes to withdraw from a study. Dr. Lisa Best (Psychology) will lead a discussion on the essentials for planning and managing informed consent.
3. Methodological Focus of the Month: Participant Engagement
There are increasing expectations of major funding bodies that participants be more actively engaged in research; however it is challenging to determine how and when engagement ought to take place. Some research methodologies are more amenable to participant engagement. Dr. Dan Nagel (Nursing) will share some of the insights from the recent Qualitative Health Research conference, where participant engagement was the main theme.
